This project entails a series of installations created from left-over signs and banners which were collected from large public demonstrations. The work is an homage to Joseph Beuys, in reference to his similar ’’action“ on May 1, 1972 in Berlin.
At a number of significant public demonstrations, I swept up afterward and collected the remnants of banners, signs, flyers and pamphlets, and stowed them in especially-made wooden suitcases. Subsequently this material was presented as objects composited against the wall and in the closed suitcases.
While the work is intended as an ongoing project, the material for the installations was collected on several occasions since 2003.
Each of these works is also available as a photographical serial work.
