Foundation Nieuw en Meer is a large studio complex on the outskirts of Amsterdam . The extensive grounds of 3.7 acres are sandwiched between the west side of Amsterdam and Schiphol airport. On a floor space of approx. 9000m2 are about 100 artists and related businesses established .
The former munitions storehouse of Defense was squatted in 1988 and pretty soon legalized. Exceptional is that the complex still is independently owned and operated by the artists.
Nearly all disciplines within the visual and applied arts and various crafts are represented
Nieuw en Meer is also famous for their site specific exhibitions and spectacular festivals.
